Stuart Merrill
Stuart creates his wonderful fountains in the high desert atmosphere of the American Southwest. He works with a diverse group of dedicated artists who have been working together for the past twelve years in a setting of mutual support and inspiration. "I spent the first half of my life pursuing a career in the performing arts - theater and dance. About five years ago, I was introduced to working with clay and I knew immediately that this was my medium for creativity. Beginning with learning the art of mold-making and slip-casting, I was excited about creating a line of ceramic drums, as I have always enjoyed drumming with others. Then I learned slab rolling techniques and enjoyed making oriental style lanterns for both indoor and outdoor gardens to complement my interest in bonsai and landscaping. This led me to the design of fountains. I have always been drawn to water features, fascinated by their dynamic and healing energy. Creating fountains combines all of the above skills. I make my own molds for the fountain bowls and many of the center pieces, which are then slip cast. With other designs, I use the techniques of slab rolling and working with stone in addition to clay. I've found great joy in being an artist, having my own business and offering these beautiful and practical healing tools."
