Five Minute Desktop Meditation
   by Lorraine Aho

HOW TO MEDITATE WITH A MANDALA

Start with the intention to set a new focus, a new vision, or simply let go. The mandala is a symbol of integration, harmony and transformation and focusing on a mandala sends your energy into it.

Create a sacred space in which to meditate and communicate with God, your higher Self, or the universe. This can be as simple as a comfortable space for you to sit while focusing on the mandala image. The sacred space should be quiet and secluded, at least during the time you are using it. Set a timer for five minutes if possible. Put your phone on mute, turn off your pager and close your door.

Take a deep, cleansing breath that will mark the beginning of your meditation time. Sit comfortably in a position you can hold, so that your body will not distract you. If you are at your desk, place both feet flat on the floor and rest your arms at your sides. Adjust your computer monitor so that the mandala image can be seen easily from this position.

Take a few slow, deep breaths to quiet your rhythms. Let your eyes roam over the mandala image, gradually focusing on a point in the mandala that draws your attention.

Breathe in the point of the image you are focusing on. Breathe out to that point of the image. Feel yourself moving from your head to your heart. Continue to breathe and focus. If you find stray thoughts come into your attention, just acknowledge them ("Thinking") and send them on their way ("Breathing"). Leave your expectations behind so that the miracle of healing can happen.

At the end of the meditation write in a journal any thoughts or images that came to you. Make note of the feeling of peace you have created inside, so that you can carry it with you until you can rejoin your sacred space meditation. Be thankful for the tranquility you have just manifested and share the feeling with others.
